Italy’s Web Accessibility Law (Law No. 106 of August 10, 2018)

This law, also known as "Reform of the implementation of Directive (EU) 2016/2102 on the accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public bodies," ensures that public sector websites and mobile apps in Italy are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.

What Does the Law Do?

The law requires public organisations in Italy to make their websites and mobile apps easy to use for people with disabilities, such as those who are blind, deaf, or have mobility impairments. It follows the European Union’s rules on digital accessibility (Directive 2016/2102).

Key Requirements

1. Accessible Websites & Apps – Public sector websites and mobile apps must follow accessibility standards (like WCAG 2.1) so that people with disabilities can navigate, read, and interact with them.

2. Accessibility Statements – Each website and app must have a published statement explaining how accessible it is and how users can report problems.

3. Regular Monitoring – Public bodies must check and fix accessibility issues regularly.

4. Feedback Mechanism – Users must be able to report accessibility problems, and public organizations must respond to these reports.
