Act on the Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications of Public Sector Organisations- Hungary  

What Is This Law About?  

This law ensures that websites and mobile apps created by public sector organisations in Hungary are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. The goal is to make digital services easy to use for all citizens, regardless of their abilities.  

Key Requirements of the Law  

1. Accessibility Standards – Public sector websites and mobile apps must follow international accessibility guidelines (such as WCAG 2.1) to ensure they work well for people with visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive disabilities.  

2. Regular Checks – Organisations must regularly test their websites and apps to make sure they remain accessible.  

3. Accessibility Statement – Each website or app must have a publicly available statement explaining how accessible it is and how users can report any issues.  

4. Mobile Apps Included – The law applies not only to websites but also to mobile applications provided by public sector organisations.  

Important Dates  

- The law was enacted in 2018.  

- Public sector organisations had to comply with the accessibility requirements by specific deadlines, which were set shortly after the law took effect.
