Web Accessibility Act – Denmark  

Overview  

The Web Accessibility Act in Denmark is a law that ensures websites and mobile apps used by public sector organizations are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. The goal is to make digital services easy to use for all citizens, regardless of their abilities.  

This law is based on the EU Web Accessibility Directive and applies to government agencies, municipalities, and public institutions.  

Key Requirements in Simple Terms  

1. Accessible Websites & Apps – Public sector websites and mobile apps must be designed so that people with disabilities (such as visual, hearing, or motor impairments) can use them without barriers.  

2. Follow Accessibility Standards – Websites and apps must meet international accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.1, Level AA).  

3. Accessibility Statement – Organizations must publish a statement explaining how accessible their website or app is and how users can report issues.  

4. Feedback Mechanism – Users must be able to contact the organization if they encounter accessibility problems.  

Important Dates  

- The law was enacted in 2018.  

- Public sector websites had to comply by September 23, 2019.  

- Mobile applications had to comply by June 23, 2021.
